Kizomba is a beautiful couples social dance from Angola that is gaining popularity all over the world in the last years. It’s an African dance based on walking patterns that creates a beautiful flow and deep connection to yourself, your partner and the music, and that allows for an incredible amount of personal interpretation and musicality. It’s also playful, sensual, and required being in the moment. It’s a dance that is known to be more of an experience than outer manifestation and it can only truly be appreciated fully by dancing it.

Kizomba included both linear and circular walking patterns, and African hip and body movements. It is sometimes called the African Tango, because of the close embrace and the similar walking patterns to Argentine Tango. Today there are different styles of kizomba music and dance from the traditional Semba to the modern Urban Kiz, but all the styles are based on the original Passadas (walking patterns), which is what Brigitte teaches first, then she teaches a mix of the original kizomba styles and the Urban Kizomba styles. As well as teaching about History, music, musicality, connection posture, isolations, playfulness and much more, allowing students to become well rounded dancers who are appreciated at social dances.

Be Kiz is a reminder to be present, to be yourself, to be in the moment, to be the music, to be real, to be with your partner fully for who they are. Yes Kizomba has many steps and we can get lost in that aspect of the dance. But especially in Kizomba it makes a world of difference if you remember that dance is more than steps, it's self expression, sharing, having fun, being playful, connecting with your partner, with the music and with yourself. By doing those things the importance of the complexity of the steps fade away and just swaying to the beat with another soul becomes an unforgettable experience. Here at Be Kiz Brigitte trains both steps and how to become your own dancer. Join an awsome and welcoming community of inspiring dancers and take the journey towards not only learning a new dance but also discovering the dance inside you!
